Anxiety Counselling

Living with anxiety can be an overwhelming and isolating experience. The constant worry, racing thoughts, physical sensations can make even the simplest tasks feel like monumental challenges.

You’re not alone. Counselling is a place where you can find understanding and support. We’ll work together and acknowledge the struggles of your anxiety. You’ll become aware of when anxiety specifically comes for you. We’ll see the specific situations your anxiety emerges and gets a grip on you. Finally, we’ll understand what that part of you is anxious about. Together we’ll find your way of attending to that side, how it needs to approached with gentleness and sensitively. All in all we’ll endeavour to understand what activates your anxiety, and what It needs from you. This approach is designed to empower You, your sense of yourself and who you are. Take a breath, for here begins your journey of healing, growth, and renewed hope.

Counselling Steps for Anxiety

Initial Assessment

First we’ll meet to discuss your concerns, symptoms, and goals to gain a deeper understanding of your anxiety. We’ll look at where your anxiety might be helpful in your life and where it is not. In many ways we need the energy of anxiety to get up every morning and start our day. We will identify your way of being your anxious side and harnessing its positive energy to lead your life authentically. We will always approach your anxiety, and the negative impacts it has on your life, carefully and at a pace that’s right for you. This allows you to understand some of the underlying factors and its unhelpful ways that contribute to the struggles you experience in your daily life.

Identifying Your Response Patterns

Becoming aware of your typical internal response patterns and what activates them involves, 1) understanding your inner relationship with the side of you that’s anxious, and 2) identifying specific situations, thoughts, or behaviours that may be anxiety provoking or that are exacerbating your anxiety symptoms. Understanding and recognising these are important to then know what needs to change in order to feel better about yourself and in your relationships – what we don’t see and can’t consciously describe about ourselves, we can’t change.

The counselling process - working together

Throughout the counselling process, I will regularly evaluate how the whole process is going. We will work through any challenges or setbacks that arise together. Regular check-ins provide an opportunity to acknowledge what has shifted and changed even if slight, and address any new concerns you have.

Please note that the above outline is a general framework for counselling for anxiety. Your sessions will be adapted to your specific needs and personal goals. My training and experience, and your active participation in the therapeutic process, are essential for healing and change to take place. Through anxiety counselling, you can discover how to turn towards your anxiety, and understand what makes it so anxious in that moment. At the same time, as your sense of self grows and comes to more light, you will begin to welcome and harness the energy it carries.
